The La Veta Fire Protection District proudly protects an area of 210 square miles. This department has served the Cuchara Valley in Huerfano County since 1949. Station #1 is in downtown La Veta.

Station #2 in Cuchara was built in the mid-'80s. Each station houses an ambulance, brush truck, engine, squad and tender.

To view a satellite photo of our coverage area, please right-click on this link and select "Open in New Window"---> Coverage Area  (Please be patient, this takes a minute or two to launch.)

Like most other departments, many of the calls within our district are medical-related. But we also respond to a significant number of structure and wildland fire calls as well as mutual aid for neighboring fire departments in Walsenburg, Gardner and adjacent counties.

We provide basic life support emergency medical services in conjunction with our advanced life support transport provider, Walsenburg Ambulance.
